Qualifications

Recognised qualifications for joining the register:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Deaf Studies (Interpreting), Trinity College Dublin (NFQ Level 8)

Qualifications previously recognised, but no longer available

  • Masters in Interpreting Studies with Irish Sign Language / English language pair, (equivalent to NFQ Level 9), Queens University Belfast, 2013 -2017
  • Continuous Professional Development Certificate in Deaf Interpreting, Trinity College Dublin, 2020-2021
  • Signature Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting with Level 6 NVQ Certificate in Irish Sign Language (equivalent to NFQ Level 8) Based in Galway, 2015-2018[1]
  • Diploma in ISL/English Interpreting, NFQ Level 7, Trinity College Dublin (1994 – 1999)
  • Diploma in Deaf Studies, (Diploma of Higher Education) ISL/English Interpreting, (equivalent to NFQ Level 8), University of Bristol (2001 – 2010)
  • Sign Language Interpreting Service / Irish Sign Link Accreditation processes (1997, 2000, 2006, 2009)[1]

If you do not have a recognised qualification, you can still apply for registration with RISLI. However, you may be required to submit additional information to support your application. Please see our Policy pages for more information
