RISLI is seeking expressions of interest from individuals to fill vacancies on the Registration Sub-Committee of the Register of Irish Sign Language Interpreters (RISLI).
Background
The Irish Sign Language Act (2017) outlines the requirements for courts and public bodies to use Irish Sign Language (ISL) interpreters whose qualifications have been verified by the RISLI. The RISLI register is a standards-based registration system for ISL Interpreters. RISLI is funded and supported by the Citizens Information Board (CIB) which lies under the aegis of the Department of Social Protection
Registration Sub-Committee Membership
RISLI is seeking expressions of interest from individuals who have the appropriate skills, capacity and experience to fill two vacancies on the subcommittee. We are seeking individuals who are currently registered with RISLI as an ISL interpreter or who were previously registered with RISLI. Applicants should have at least 5 years’ experience working as an interpreter in a variety of settings. It is expected that one of the vacancies will be filled by a Deaf interpreter.
Duties of the Registration Sub-committee
- The sub-committee consider all applications for registration.
- The sub-committee considers any failures by registered interpreters to meet the maintenance of registration requirements, in relation to Continuous Professional Development and the work practice requirements.
- Much of the work of the sub-committee is conducted by email. Meetings take place as necessary.
- As a voluntary sub-committee member no fees will be paid to members, however, travel and subsistence expenses will be paid when applicable.
- Appointments are initially for a term of three years, which can be renewed.
For more information, please see the RISLI registration policies.
If you believe you have the appropriate experience and skills, this is a great opportunity to contribute to the development of a professional registration and quality assurance scheme for Irish Sign Language interpreters.
